4 Tips for a Healthy Holiday Complexion

Nothing dampens holiday cheer like dull and dry skin. Whether you’re traveling to see loved ones, spending long days shopping or preparing your favorite seasonal food, you’ll appreciate the simplicity of a healthy complexion. Let us help you make the most of every photo-op this holiday season with 4 easy steps to achieving glowing skin:

1. Select Your Moisturizer Carefully

Avoid petroleum based moisturizers. Petroleum, commonly labeled as ‘petrolatum’ on beauty products, blocks your pores and prevents the skin’s natural respiration process from occurring, then leading to further drying.

Look for products made of hydrating essential oils. Lavender, chamomile and jojoba are known for soothing dry, irritated skin.

2. Create a Moisture-Rich Makeup Bag

Give your complexion some breathing room by choosing lightweight, multi-purpose products. Powder formulas are dry skin’s worst enemy. To ensure hydration, reach for liquid and gel based formulas. We highly recommend Jane Iredale’s Glow Time Pro BB Cream. This product cuts your foundation routine in half by covering blemishes, minimizing pores and disguising wrinkles to leave your skin bright and smooth.

For a natural and rosy glow, put down your powder bronzer and reach for a cream based formula such as Jane Iredale’s Glow Time Cream Based Blush. Follow up with mascara and use your favorite setting spray to seal the products onto your skin for a fuss-free natural look.

3. Befriend Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is naturally found throughout the body and helps maintain moisture within the skin. This handy ingredient provides serious hydration by holding up to 400 times its weight in moisture.

For best results, incorporate hyaluronic acid into your nightly skincare regimen. After thoroughly cleansing your face, apply a water based serum. We love the Peptide 38 and HA Clear Concentrate from Rhonda Allison Skincare. This type of serum allows the acid to penetrate below the skin’s surface to hydrate the deepest layers.

Finish your evening regiment with a good night cream. Work it into the skin to seal in the serum and thoroughly hydrate the surface layer. If your skin tends to stay on the dryer side, try using a cream with Shea Butter or Collagen to further moisturize.

4. Try a Chemical Peel

Don’t let the name scare you away!  Our micro-chemical peels require minimal to no down time and have many hydrating benefits that are ideal when performed during cooler months.

Manual exfoliates such as scrubs and enzymes are great as warm weather refreshers. They treat the outermost layer of your skin and require little downtime. But, a chemical peel penetrates and exposes the deeper layers of your dermis to give you a new, fresh and hydrated complexion.

This is why peels should not be performed during summer months, as long spouts of time in the heat and beach days with UV rays are not ideal for healing.

          Benefits of Chemical Peels include:

  • Combating fine lines and wrinkles caused by genetics, aging and sun damage
  • Improving the appearance and texture of a dull complexion
  • Reducing age spots, pigmentation or melasma, a common side effect of birth control pills
  • Relieving acne, rosacea and eczema flare ups, which are common in cold weather months
  • Treating superficial scarring

As with any ongoing skin issues, set aside time with your aesthetician to ensure the best treatment plan.
