Here’s How To Handle Swimsuit Season Like A Pro.

When I think about summer, fun in the sun, beach getaways, and making memories that will last a lifetime come to mind. Swimsuit season is officially here and untimely stubble and razor burn are not welcome. So, what are the options? Waxing could be your solution.

If the thought of letting a stranger wax off the most sensitive hair on your body sends chills down your spine, you’re not alone. Yet, many women rave about the smooth, long-lasting results they gets in return.

Here’s how to ace your first waxing experience.

Waxing Options

Bikini Line – This option is first-time-wax friendly. If you’re an au naturale girl, this will tidy things up along the edges and keep you worry-free in the pool. It includes the removal of any unwanted hair from your normal panty-line and the top of your thighs.

Take it one step further with a Full Bikini wax. This will take a little more off the top and the edges of your pubic region. An added comfort: You can keep your panties on during this option if you’re feeling a smidge shy.

French Wax – Otherwise known as the Landing Strip, your hair is taken fully from the top and the sides, leaving a strip of manicured hair right down the middle. The back is also left alone. If you’re not feeling the landing strip, ask your technician for a customizable result.

Brazilian – The Brazilian continues to be the most popular style, for good reason. This option removes hair completely from the top and the sides, but also all the way under and around the back leaving your bum completely hairless.

If you’re wanting to feel smooth and hairless all the way around, book a brazilian.

Bare – We don’t recommend this option for the faint of heart. If your main priority is freedom from any hair down there, this is for you. Be warned, the bare option may require several yoga-esque positions to achieve your desired look.

Preparation

When it comes to waxing preparation, there’s a few things you’ll want to consider.

First, make sure your hair is at least a 1/2 an inch long, or the length of a grain of rice. This will ensure the wax has plenty to grab onto, keeping ingrown hairs far away.

Second, consider your period. Though it can still be done, we recommend booking your waxing appointment before or after your time-of-the-month. Your pain threshold is much lower during your period and will cause the waxing experience to be a bit more painful.

But, if aunt flow pops up and surprises you, put in a tampon and call ahead to let your technician know.

Third, you get what you pay for. Though there are cheaper options, you’ll thank yourself for choosing a salon with a good reputation. Our advice? Text your girlfriend’s and ask them about their waxing experiences.

Forth, keep your skincare routine consistent and avoid exfoliates a few days before your appointment. A change in routine could cause unwanted irritation.

Fifth, mention any pre-existing skin conditions to your technician. Anything from moles to a light sunburn is worth mentioning. Here’s our advice: If your time in the sun has left you burned,  you may want to push back your appointment.

The Day Of Your Appointment

Take the edge off. An hour before your appointment take your normal, over-the-counter pain medication. We promise, the pain wont be as bad as you imagine and once you get in a waxing routine, many salons recommend coming every four weeks, the pain threshold goes down and your skin begins to adjust.

When waxing day comes, skip the gym. For the next 24 hours we recommend treating your waxing zone very delicately.

Wear something breathable, you’ll be glad you did. Creating a breezy environment will significantly decrease your chances of irritation and ingrown hairs.

Aftercare

Right after your wax, your bikini area may not look exactly how you imagined. It is completely normal for there to be a bit of redness and bumps. This after-affect commonly referred to as chicken skin should calm down within the next few hours.

Great aftercare means great skincare. Don’t be afraid to ask your technician if your salon sells a product to keep your bikini area calm and soothed, its likely they’ll have a great suggestion. Hydracortisone also works wonders for calming any unwanted irritation.

The Truth About Oily Skin.

If we’re honest, many of us don’t know much about our skin. We may know that it’s a little oily, or a little dry, or even acne prone but that’s about it. Am I right? When it comes to proper treatment it’s easy to get lost in a sea of skincare products that didn’t work out. Trial and error often lead us to a cabinet full of failed skincare hope.

And then we wonder…will I ever find what works for me?

Here’s 3 skincare facts you should know:

1. Oily Skin Needs Moisture Too

An oily complexion is often mistaken for dirty skin, but don’t be fooled. This thinking can lead you to strip your skin of essential oils and cause you to over-cleanse. Stripped skin will then produce more oil to over-compensate, yikes! Try a gel or oil free moisturizer for best results.

We recommend The Pur Moist™ Oil-Free Moisturizer By the HydraFacial Company. Its light weight, non-greasy formula deeply moisturizes skin without leaving it a grease-ball. A powerful blend of Salicylic Acid and Lilac Leaf Extract minimizes oil production throughout the day while Aloe leaf helps calm and sooth skin. It is even known to double as a hydrating primer, yes please!

2. The Source Of Oily Skin Is Deeper Than The Surface

Using more cosmetics to absorb or cover up oil can have the opposite effect. This can cause pores to get blocked, making your complexion more oily in return.

We recommend using a skincare line that treats and aids your complexion as you wear it. Try Jane Iredale. This company brands itself as the skincare makeup, with good reason. This mineral based makeup combines skincare with its products to produce something your skin will love.

3. The HydraFacial Is One Of The Only Facials On The Market That Can Address All Your Skincare Needs

HydraFacial™ is one of the most talked about skin treatments today by Hollywood celebrities and the likes of ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS and more. Magazines such as Allure, In Style, Essence and Bazaar cant get enough, and here’s why:

HydraFacial™ uses a patented Vortex-Fusing™  technology to support healthy skin by targeting and improving fine lines and wrinkles, congested and enlarged pores, oily or acne-prone skin, hyper-pigmentation, and sun damaged or aging skin.

Yes, really. It’s that good!

When performed by a professionally trained esthetician, all can be done painlessly without irritating or harsh chemicals and on all skin types.

We all hate to admit it, but Mom was totally right.

From skincare to boys, Mom knew a lot more than we gave her credit for. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, here’s 15 things Mom was totally right about. Join in on the fun! Share this post and tag mom to give her the recognition she deserves.

 1. You can admire someone else’s beauty without questioning your own

Someone else may be beautiful, but that doesn’t mean that you aren’t. Someone else may have had the best legs or the cutest date to the 8th Grade dance, but that doesn’t mean your Shirley Temple ringlet curls and lime green dress weren’t completely fabulous. Mom was totally right.

2. In 10 years this won’t matter

I bet you don’t even remember the name of that boy you had to have in high school…do you? Everything was such a big deal, remember? Now we know just how true the phrase “Life Goes On,” truly is. Mom was totally right.

3. One day you’ll like coffee…and broccoli…and wine.

This needs no further explanation. But seriously, who could’ve known we’d eat this much broccoli? *Sips on second cup of coffee*

Mother's Day

4. Always wear sunscreen

Mom, thank you for all the times you forced me to take care of my skin. even though I wiggled…and screamed…and threw the occasional temper tantrum. Older me thanks you. Older me also knows the importance of a good Aesthetian.

5. Invest in comfortable shoes

Nothing beats a stylish, comfortable, shoe. Which totally exists.  I’ve also gained a new perspective on shoes: Could I make it through a trip to the grocery store in these without wanting to scream? If not, it’s a NO from me. Mom was totally right.

6. Listen to your Mother

As soon as you went to college, or left the house, you knew just how true this was. Plus, mom know’s how to get out any stain known to man. We’re still trying to figure out how she does that. I know I’m not the only one who’s glad Mom is just a phone call away.

7. A good lipstick can make you feel powerful

When mom put on her favorite lipstick, you knew she meant business. There’s just something about rocking your favorite bold lip that gives you a boost of confidence when you need it.

8. Always say thank you

Mom knew it was important to make those around us feel appreciated. She was so right. Now that we’re a little older we know just how important it is to pause and say thank you.

Mother's Day

9. Take care of your skin

Sunscreen was just the beginning. Every time she said “Stop touching your face,” or “Don’t pick at your skin,” we rolled our eyes. And now, we go with her to her favorite spa. A little skincare goes a long way.

10. Always take your make-up off before bed

I think we can all agree the make-up remover wipe is the best invention since sliced bread. Gone are the days of “Last nights eyeliner, is today’s smokey eye,” plus, who’s got time for clogged pores? Mom, it pains me, but you we’re totally right.

Mother's Day

11. A few great friends is all you need

Mom always had this 6th sense about who we didn’t need to be friends with. Remember that boy she didn’t like for you? She was totally right about that. As mom always said “I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.”

Mother's Day

12. Don’t grow up too fast

Why were we all in such a hurry to grow up again?

Mother's Day

13. You cant control what happens, only how you react

Mom always said you could catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Mother's Day

14. Wait until you have kids of your own

Words have never rung more true.

Mother's Day

15. You’ll thank me when you’re older

You’re right, I couldn’t thank you enough.

For millions of women (and men), the weekly ritual of having a professionally done manicure is an enjoyable part of their personal grooming. The number of nail salons is literally staggering, and unfortunately the sanitation standards of these salons can vary widely in spite of health regulations. There is money to be made, and the temptation to skate around the rules could cause you pain and discomfort. So how clean is your nail salon or spa?

There are a number of things to look for when choosing a salon and you, as the customer, ultimately have the responsibility and control to ensure your health is not at risk. Spend your money at a salon or spa that strictly adheres to the state health regulations. A few simple questions and a watchful eye can tell you if your salon goes the extra mile for cleanliness, or is lazy in their sanitation efforts. We will explore several aspects of sanitation as it relates to your salon in coming editions.

The tools your technician uses in your service hold the major potential for spreading bacteria. By law these implements must be disinfected or sterilized. There are two methods for achieving this. A disinfectant chemical liquid can be used to destroy bacteria, or a higher level of cleanliness can be reached for metal items through the use of an autoclave. Autoclaves deliver the highest level of cleanliness, known as sterilization, through the use of dry steam to kill 99.9999% of all microorganisms and their spores. Disposable tools are also an option in any spa or salon.

Beyond Beaute’ exceeds state requirements, utilizing all three of these methods. Don’t be embarrassed to ask questions. Because your wellness is of utmost importance to us, our technicians are happy to respond to your concerns and we look forward to your next visit with us.

Pre and Post Peel Treatments for Maximum Results

Now that you’ve decided on a chemical peel to reclaim your skin’s vibrant appearance for the fall season, ask your esthetician to include the appropriate pre and post treatments. It is easy to jump to the “main event” so to speak. But pre and post treatments greatly impact the results you achieve and are vital to your success. Pretreatments can vary according to specific skin challenges. Some examples may include pigmentation, acne, acne scarring, aging, rougher/thicker texture, and sensitive skin. In each of these cases your esthetician will choose a treatment specifically designed to address that condition and initiate the rejuvenation process prior to the actual peel.

After treatment, the skin’s health must be supported while it repairs and rebuilds. There can be complications associated with peels and post treatments are used to alleviate issues such as itching, which is common for many types of skin, not just sensitive skin. There are several products that can relieve these symptoms. Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is normally caused by picking at peeling skin and clients should always be cautioned against this. Epidermal growth factor products help with this condition. Mild pain or discomfort (usually subsiding within 24 hours) can be common, but different ingredients can be used to cool and soothe the skin.

Remember that a peel is a trauma to the skin, but with proper care and support of the healing process chemical peels stimulate the regenerative process, improve hydration, tone and texture and are a great way to reclaim the healthy look of a younger you.

One of the best ways to get visible improvement in the look and health of your skin is with a gentle chemical peel. Layering enzymes and acids removes the dead skin cells from the surface of your face revealing new vibrant skin that lies beneath. This occurs naturally over time, but a peel speeds up the process.

Rhonda Allison peels range from progressive (tier 1) to deep and intense (tier 3). Your esthetician can tailor your peel to achieve the desired results based on how much time downtime you can afford. For example, a tier 1 peel can be done on your lunch hour with no down time. Final results are achieved with a series of 3 to 6 treatments one to two weeks apart.

If you don’t mind giving up a weekend, a tier 2 peel can be done on a Wednesday or Thursday with exfoliation occurring in 2 to 3 days. You will experience light flaking similar to a sunburn. This peel can be repeated monthly for desired effect.

When you are focused on immediate results, a tier 3 deep, intense peel can be utilized. It remains gentle, superficial, and noninvasive, but requires downtime. Flaking occurs in large segments 3 to 4 days after treatment, as the skin becomes brown and crusty. The full process takes 7 to 10 days. This peel can be repeated 3 to 4 times yearly.

Chemical peels stimulate the regenerative process, improve hydration, tone and texture and are a great way to reclaim the healthy look of a younger you.
